Report: Strengthening Clinical Trial Systems through Global Collaboration
The Pasteur Network and the International Vaccine Institute (IVI) are sharing the report from the World Health Assembly 79 side event “Catalyzing Global Collaboration to Strengthen Clinical Trial Systems,” held on 19 May 2026 in Geneva.
Organized by IVI and the Pasteur Network in collaboration with the World Health Organization, and co-sponsored by the governments of Brazil, Ghana, Rwanda, Sweden, and Viet Nam, the event brought together policymakers, researchers, regulators, funders, international organizations, and implementing partners.
The report summarizes key discussions on how to strengthen clinical trial ecosystems globally, with a particular focus on equity, preparedness, innovation, and the need to better include low- and middle-income countries in clinical research.
Main topics include national leadership, regulatory reform, ethics oversight, clinical trial networks, digitalization, workforce development, sustainable financing, equitable partnerships, vaccine manufacturing, and outbreak preparedness.
The report also highlights country experiences from Brazil, Ghana, Sweden, Tanzania, and Viet Nam, as well as perspectives from WHO, IVI, the Pasteur Network, CEPI, EDCTP3, PATH, Wellcome Trust, and Team Europe’s MAV+ initiative.
This publication is intended to support continued dialogue and coordinated action toward stronger, more inclusive, and more resilient clinical trial systems worldwide.
